2010

August was a happening month! First we had Vacation Bible camp and then our annual Church Family Picnic!
June 29th was a book discussion held at the home of Ian & Linda. Looks like books were a good things to gather and talk about! This book's title was "The Shack"

June 20th was the final congregational breakfast before summer. This month the guest speaker was Heidy Van Dyk, Ward 5 council representative for Norfolk County and she spoke of the rewards of being a councillor. She will be missed as Heidy has decided to not run in this next election but further her education. Good luck Heidy, and we hope to see you in another election when you are finished your schooling!

This was another busy weekend for us as we accepted donations for our annual "yard sale" on the Friday evening, and prepared to sell it the next day. As you can
see, folks were very generous! Items were displayed along the walk outside, and in the hall downstairs. There was something for everyone!

Yard sales can be a lot of fun, especially when you get an item that you just aren't sure of it's purpose. But, eventually, someone found what they were looking for!

Saturday afternoon strawberries were prepared, and cakes baked for our strawberry social, following worship!

A get-together was held at Trinity Anglican Church for "Friendship in Faith" members. The Boy Scouts served hamburgs, potato chips, pop and ice cream sandwiches. This was supposed to be an outdoor event, but the weather changed the venue! It is nice to see many churches co-operate together! As you can see, people were entertained, honoured, and worked together, all the while, having a lot of fun!

April 20, 2101 was an "Acton Day" .The morning worship was lead by Rev. Pieter Van Harten. Pieter is the minister at Knox, Acton , where Ian was preaching  for the day.

Later, after a Pot Luck supper, members of the congregation enjoyed "A Dramatic Presentation of St. Paul’s First Letter to the Christians in Corinth ." by Mark Tiller, also of Acton.

This is a picture of the group that has been studying Corinth. From the looks on their faces, I would say they enjoyed their sessions!

As you can see, the men welcomed the ladies to another breakfast. Our guest was Herb Gale, Associate Secretary of Planned Giving in the PCC (Presbyterian Church in Canada ). He is well-known and has served the national church in other capacities, and he is the official nominee for the Moderator of the 136th. General Assembly. (Bob Ellis is a Commissioner).
Pray for him as 2010 - 11 will be a demanding year. (Pray for Bob too! This May/June will be hectic).

After the yummy breakfast, which saw Ian's table go up first (are we surprised?) Herb gave his speech, and Leighton presented him with a CD our choir made.

The Worship & Education Committee is considering a change in the Sunday School curriculum. “Children and Worship” is a Montessori based program that has been used in Presbyterian Churches across Canada and the US for about 25 years. Linda Shaw, former coordinator of C & W for the Presbyterian Church in Canada demonstrated this model of nurturing children in their faith, on Tues. April 13, in the parlour. Sunday School teachers, parents, grand-parents, and elders were encouraged to attend.
Many thanks to all who helped over this Easter weekend. Donations of wood, building a cross, and ordering flowers to decorate our sanctuary are just a few of the appreciated efforts by those in our congregation!

Sunday evening also saw us gather to kick off our GST auction! Bruce piped the organizers into the pot luck dinner after folks had finished the final touches to their dishes in the kitchen, and the rest were able to have a closer look at many of the items available, donated by members of our congregation. Ian commented that the Record has a section for "we had cake" and that our congregation does more than that! As you can see, he does enjoy the eating aspect of functions! Sorry, Ian, but you do set yourself up!
The folks with the blue folders were busy as bids were taken, upped, and upped again! The bidding closes next week. Here are just a few items that were on our list.

Sunday, March 21 was a busy day for us. It started with a guest speaker at Men's Breakfast. Dave Phillips from Crieff Hills spoke to the men about the building campaign at Crieff. He then joined us during worship and received a donation from our congregation.
Today, Feb. 21, Peighton was baptized during our morning worship. She certainly seems to be happy in Grandma Darlene's arms and almost as happy as Darlene is to have her in her arms.

February 16

It's true what they say about many hands making light work. Many hands helped to make our pancake supper a success.

Thanks go to those who helped by cooking, cleaning, serving, selling/taking tickets, and eating!

Our congregation helped raise funds for Haiti with other musicians and churches on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.  The concert was also a way of saying thank you to those who have already donated. It is hoped that people will continue to think of Haiti and help out in the future.
Thanks to many from St. Paul's thousands of felt Bible figures were cut out and filed in boxes ready to present Bible Stories at Friendship in Faith.
We certainly do like our cake! This event was to celebrate Ian and linda being with us for a full year! Time flies fast when you are having fun, and our congregation does enjoy it's fellowship time after services meeting new folks and sharing stories with friends!
