PASTORAL CARE COMMITTEE

 ANNUAL REPORT - 2007

During this past year our projects were:  

  • Lenten Luncheons: Our lenten luncheons took place on Wednesdays from February 21 through to March 28. Many thanks are extended to the members of the congregation who so very kindly donated soups and goodies for these luncheons. The average attendance each week was between 32-36 people with $437.46 being raised for the Guatemala Fund.

  • Large Print Hymn Books  (Sing Your Way Home) The Men’s Breakfast Club purchasing 30 (plus one piano book) from the “Strathroy Senior’s Hymnbook Committee”.

  • Easter Plants :The purchase of Easter plants is done on an annual basis. They were given to our elderly members who are unable to attend church on a regular basis.

  • Easter Cards: This is also done on an annual basis reaching out to former members (who have moved away) as well as our elderly, to let them know we are thinking of them.

  • Congregational Dinner: This was a Chicken/Cabbage Roll Dinner held on Wednesday, May 29, organized as a fund raiser for our Building Fund.   

  •  Strawberry Social: This event which is always enjoyed by all was held after worship on Sunday, June 24th.

  • Lemonade on the Lawn: This took place Sundays after worship during the months of July and August.

  •  Christmas Plants (poinsettias): These plants were ordered from King’s Flowers, who placed and arranged them in the sanctuary (with the assistance of Hilda Amorim) for December 16th. These plants which always help to beautifully decorate our sanctuary, were purchased for our shut-ins and were delivered after worship by our Pastoral Care committee.

  • Christmas Cards: A number of Christmas cards were also sent to our elderly, as well as friends who have moved away. 

  • A total of 90 cards were sent out from our committee over this past year.

 A sincere thank you is extended to each member on our committee for all of your continued hard work and dedication.

 ANNUAL REPORT - 2006

During this past year our projects were:

  • Baby Shower for Refugee Family - on Saturday, February 11. Marie Muth, on behalf of the Pastoral Care Committee convened this baby shower for Andrea, from our Columbian Refugee Family.

  • Lenten Luncheons Our Lenten luncheons took place, beginning Wednesday, March 1 through to Wednesday, April 5 at 12:00 noon. Thanks is extended to the members of the congregation who so kindly donated soup and other foods. The average attendance each Wednesday was thirty six, with $453.05 raised for the Guatemala Fund.

  • Easter Plants for Shut-ins -This is done on a yearly basis and so very much enjoyed by those who receive them.

  • Easter Cards - Cards are sent to former members and seniors of St. Paul’s Church to let them know we are thinking of them.

  • Pastoral Care Luncheon for our Seniors/Shut-ins - was to be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 12:00 noon. This had been planned, however was cancelled due to a power failure in the Simcoe area. Soup and coffee was delivered to the residents of St. Paul’s Court, who were home at the time.

  • Strawberry Social - was held on Sunday, June 18 (after worship). Several members from the pastoral care committee volunteered to pick and prepare the berries. Thanks is extended to the congregation who donated cake as well as to the young people who helped serve.

  • Movie Night - The Pastoral Care Committee sponsored a movie night for the congregation on Friday, May 26. "One Size Fits All".

  • Lemonade on the Lawn - This took place Sundays after worship during the months of July and August.

  • Muffin & Coffee Hour - The Pastoral Care Committee sponsored a coffee hour on Monday, November 9, at 10:30 a.m.

  • Christmas Luncheon for Shut-ins - The committee sponsored a Christmas Luncheon for St. Paul’s shut-ins. There were approximately 40 people in attendance. Transportation was provided and each person received a Santa gift. This luncheon was very much enjoyed and appreciated by all who attended.

  • Delivery of Poinsettias - These Christmas plants were ordered from King’s Flowers, who placed them in the sanctuary for Sunday, December 17. They helped decorate our sanctuary, with being delivered after worship by our Pastoral Care Committee to St. Paul’s shut-ins. A special thank you is extended to King’s Flowers. They were beautiful. Christmas cards were also sent out to many of our seniors, shut-ins and to old friends who have moved away.

A special thank you is extended to each committee member for all of your hard work and dedication. We enjoy being with one another and work well together to reach out to the congregation.
