Guatemala Mission Tour

The Guatemala Mission-Tour
Messages Received while our travelers were away. They have safely returned home and are sharing their stories, not only with our congregation, but many others as well!
Tues. Feb. 25th St. Paul's Congregation;
As we move from project to project, it is like going into another world.  Today we spent time with a Mayan community which has been supported by the Presbyterian Church of Canada as well as P.W.S. & D. - support in the form of no-interest loans for training, seed corn and seed potatoes.
 Each day is an adventure in sights, food and customs.    We shall have a fantastic story to tell.
Right now we do not know how this can be done to do the experience justice.
    We send our love,
        The Guatemala Group
Saturday, Feb. 22  Bob  phoned  at about 10 o'clock. I missed the call. He phoned home; I was in the Church office. He left a message on my answering machine. I quote "roughly". " The trip and experience At San Miguel is more than we could hope for. These are beautiful people. The four walls to the clinic are up. Some 300 people attended a "Canada Night" celebration in the village last night (Friday). They were leaving San Miguel to see other parts of Guatemala and other projects.
We will keep everyone posted if we hear more.

Wed. Feb. 19th We had a phone call at noon today (12.30) from Bob Ellis in San Miguel las Pilas. The temperature there is 33 degrees C. Everyone is well. The accommodations for the group is very satisfactory. Yesterday they toured the Francisco Coll School which is built on the edge of the dump of Guatemala City. Most of the students come from the slum dwellers of Guatemala. Bob indicated that the children were very wonderful/nice. He said that it was an emotional time for the group. Indeed, his voice broke as he was telling it to us. Last night, the whole community of San Miguel came out to meet them with gifts for them and they had a public reception. Today, the ladies from our group are getting together with women from the community and they are showing them how they do their laundry and how they bake tortillas. The Medical Centre that we are building is much larger than we had anticipated. The group seemed surprised by this. The community appears to
be very progressive as they work hard together to try to improve their lot and to make a difference. Friday, we presume in the evening, there will be another celebration. At that, our group will present them with gifts, chief among them is the very lovely "Spanish Pulpit Bible". Our group will be at San Miguel until Saturday. Bob indicated that he would call again.
Mon. Feb.17th We have heard from the Head Office that the Guatemala Group has arrived
safely. There was however, a delay in El Salvador waiting for their plane
coming from La Guardia Airport due to heavy snow in New York. They arrived
in Guatemala at 10.30 p.m. It must have been a long day!
