Annual Report 2007 The Worship and
Education Committee meets monthly to help plan and coordinate several
important aspects of the church. The committee oversees the church school,
and is responsible to ensure that the church school is properly staffed
and that the curriculum and supplies are available for the teachers.
The Choir and the Library Committee report to Session through the
Worship and Education Committee. The committee establishes budgets for the
church school and the nursery. Adult Bible Study and Youth programs are
also under the mandate of this committee.
One of the highlights
of 2007, was the Summer church school program that was organized by Deb M.
and Jane A.. The program materials were originally purchased for a three
day Vacation Bible School program. Deb
and Jane re-worked the materials such
that it could be delivered as a Church School program during the summer
months. They set up a tropical beach in the basement of the church
complete with beach blankets, fish nets and a palm tree. Each week the
children watched a video that provided them with clues that would
eventually lead them to a hidden treasure!
It was a great program that was well received by the children.
Having a well-organized
and effective Church School and Nursery reflects positively on the church.
Parents want their children to be properly trained and cared for when they
are in the church. Our
programs work because we have people that volunteer, and we have
procedures and committees to support them. The Worship and Education
Committee extends their thanks to all of the volunteers that staff the
church school and nursery. Without your efforts our programs would not
work. |

Annual Report 2006 Worship and Education Committee has been busy in 2006. Session asked the committee to take the lead in implementing the Leading with Care policy. This is a policy of the Presbyterian Church in Canada which is being implemented in all of the churches in the country. The policy had to be reviewed and the requirements understood. We then began to communicate the policy to the congregation. Several meetings have been held to provide specific information to church workers and volunteers. Jean D. stepped down as Church School Coordinator at the end of October. Worship and Education accepted her resignation with regret. Jean has served St. Paul’s faithfully in this position. We are grateful for everything she has done over the years to promote the Church School. The committee has been working since then with the Church School teachers to assist with the coordination of the church school needs. Rolling partition walls have been ordered for the lower hall. With these walls in place, we can quickly set up two church school classrooms that will provide a much better teaching environment for the children. In the early fall, the committee initiated an adult bible study program. A group of adults met over the noon hour once per week for 10 weeks to study the book of John. The group used a study guide, followed by relaxed, informal discussions. The committee is currently starting to research and develop another adult Bible study program for the spring. Watch for announcements in the church bulletin. The nursery is another focus of the committee. Tracy is the church nursery coordinator. She is supported by a group of volunteers that staff the nursery on a scheduled basis. The Worship and Education Committee is working to support Tracy and the volunteers by ensuring that the nursery is properly equipped and maintained. The Worship and Education Committee meets once per month. Our meetings last approximately one hour. If you would like to join our committee call the church office. We would be pleased to have you join us. |
